Wells class starship (Star Trek)

The Wells class is a 29th century Federation timeship class in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager, appearing in the episode "Relativity". The episode's titular ship, the USS Relativity, is the only Wells-class ship to appear in Star Trek. The class is named after H.G. Wells, author of The Time Machine.

Capabilities and design

The Relativity is "time ship" capable, allowing the crew to transport to any point in time and known space. The ship has a small, single hull with WarP nacelles that are pod-like in appearance. The ship's weapon systems are unknown, but the ship does have temporal shielding to protect itself from The Effects of a timeline paradox and other temporal anomalies.

USS Relativity

One of USS Relativity's missions is to prevent the USS Voyager's destruction by a temporal bomb. The Relativity is under the command of Captain Braxton until he is arrested by his subordinate, Lieutenant Ducane, for crimes Braxton was going to commit.

The ship's dedication plaque states its registry is "NCV-474439-G" and that it is the seventh ship to bear the name. The plaque contains a quote from E. M. Rauch: "The Only Reason for time is so everything doesn't happen at once."

The Relativity also appears in the non-canon Star Trek: New Frontier comic book, attempting to prevent Mackenzie Calhoun from changing history. According to this appearance, the ship's weaponry includes anti-proton cannons, as well as six phaser batteries with a charge of 1.5 killmegs.
