Wavelength (Toronto Music Series)

The modest Sunday night series was formed by a number of volunteers and launched cooperatively on Feb 11, 2000 at the now defunct Ted's Wrecking Yard. Described by the *New York Times Magazine as "the center of the Toronto scene" (02.26.2006) and by Toronto's *eye Weekly as "Toronto's premier indie-music showcase (where) you can know about a band before all your best mates befriend them on MySpace" (08.31.2006) the series has persevered through the years with a core group of activist volunteers. The series currently in a 250 capacity club upstairs from *Sneaky Dee's (431 College Street, Toronto). Wavelength encourages a "do it yourself" mentality among artists and cover remains pay-what-you-can.

The series has featured legendary performers such as bill bissett and Michael Snow, successful pop bands like *Broken Social Scene, and many hundreds of independent musicians and artists. Wavelength is booked on a rotating basis by volunteers. Wavelength is also associated with a monthly magazine at www.wavelengthtornto.com. The nights feature unique psychedelic lighting and the weekly performances are hosted by emcees Doc Pickles (Duncan MacDonnell) and Spencer Butt.

Wavelength will have its 400th show, and 8th anniversary, in February 2008.
