WARRIORS, (Script Series).

Initially created as something of a joke, the script-based Science-fiction/Fantasy series known as WARRIORS has become a phenomenon notable for its sheer unusualness. Possessing a small but vocal fan-base,WARRIORS is peculiar in that it consists of a series of television-style spec scripts never intended for wider publication nor production. Rather, they have been created for the sole purpose of internet publication and consumption, adding fuel to the fire of the digital age.

Allegedly created by University Of York student Ben Essex (though this has been a matter of some contestation), the WARRIORS series revolve around eighteen major characters, all of whom are first year students at said University. Arriving young and fresh, the students soon realise that there is more to both each other and the University than meets the eye. Imbued with Supernatural powers, the students initially believe themselves to be chosen for an adventure in the style of popular American NBC drama Heroes- however, it soon becomes apparent that a far darker and more complex fate awaits them.

The sheer complexity of the series, coupled with its almost complete obscurity and its notable difficulty in locating, render it a little-known entity; however, perhaps more important than the series itself is the growing social trend that it exemplifies. Starting life as a small scale entity on the social-networking site known as Facebook, the series has since spread to the greater web.

Peppered with humour and pop-culture references, WARRIORS is clearly a project of its age. While its future prospects seem dubious, it has nevertheless been cited by its creator as an 'important step' on the road to the digitisation of the media.

The WARRIORS Season One scripts available as a free upload as a pdf from a variety of sources, most notably the fan-run website www.freewebs.com/warriors-the-series1 For more information on internet publishing, click here.
