Warren Messner

Warren Messner, born 1989, is one of the five teenagers (Christopher Scamahorn, Jeffery Spurgeon, Justin Stearns, Phi Huynh) who committed the beating (which led to the resulting death) of the homeless man, Michael Roberts, in Holly Hill, Florida. Scamahorm, Spurgeon and Stearns were charged with first degree [...]. Messner was charged with second-degree [...] and conspiracy to commit [...]. Huynh was charged with aggravated battery.

Messner was asked during questioning, "Did you feel bad when you are doing it?"

"Not really, no," he replied.

Appeal Attempt

Messner was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to avoid a life sentence. Messner appealed to have his sentence reduced, saying that jail was too hard and that he wanted "to be an inspirational speaker for troubled teens." His mother said that "He's not getting anything, anything but locked in a cell all day long." Circuit Judge Joseph G. Will denied Messner's motion to reduce the sentence. The judge agreed with the prosecution that being locked away is precisely the point of prison.
