Walter Novak

Walter Novak is a fictional character on the ABC daytime drama All My Children. He has been portrayed by Bob Hiltermann, since August 15 2007. Walter is the estranged father of Annie Lavery and ex-convict Richie Novak. And he is deaf. A former elementary school teacher who taught music, Walter turned to painting when he lost his hearing.

Character information

Walter Novak first appears in the fictional town of Pine Valley when he is visited by his daughter, Annie, and he seems to be upset by her presence. It becomes apparent that they had a falling out and he had forbid her to return home or have contact with their family. The duration is at least five years or more, since she informs him of his granddaughter's existence and that she named her after her mother. Her mother, Emma Novak, is deceased and this is a touchy issue for the father who appears to blame Annie for his wife's death. Annie tells her father that she is looking for a woman named Elizabeth, who worked with him to teach him coping skills — ASL — after he lost his hearing. She cannot locate this woman and feels that she may be of help to her stepson, Spike. However, Walter does not want anything to do with his daughter.
