History

The company was founded in 1922 as the chemicals department of Takeda Chobei Shoten, known as Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited at present. The department separated in that year and established as an independent company. It was named Takeda Pure Chemicals Ltd. The company opened an office in Tokyo in 1935 and opened its Osaka and Tokyo plant in 1940 and 1944 respectively. In 1947 the name of the company was changed to Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Ltd. In 1952 the company headquarter was moved to its current location at Chuo-ku, Osaka.

The Wako chemicals headquarter is located at 1-2 Doshomachi 3-Chome, Chūō-ku, Osaka 540-8605, Japan. It has a Tokyo office located at Chūō, Tokyo. Its 10 regional offices are located at Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tsukuba, Koshin-etsu, Fujisawa, Shizuoka, Tokai, Hokuriku, Chugoku and Kyushu. It has chemical plants at Tokyo, Ohita, Aichi, Mie, Osaka and Harima.

  • In 1989 a Distribution Center in Tobu was opened and Wako Chemicals USA, Inc. moved to Richmond, Virginia. An office in Richmond Liaison was also opened.
  • In 1990 Miyazaki Plant was opened which is the present Wako Chemicals, Ltd. Head office. The Richmond Plant of Wako Chemicals USA, Inc. was also completed in this year.
  • In 1991 Seibu Distribution Center and Matumoto Plant was opened.
  • In 1994 Hafen Plant of Wako Chemicals GmbH was completed.
  • In 1995 Wako Chemicals obtained ISO9002 certificate of registration for its quality management system of the domestic operation.
  • In 2000 Wako obtained ISO 14001 certificate of registration for its environment management system.
  • In 2001 Tokyo and Osaka Plants were approved as official testing laboratories based on ISO/IEC 17025 Obtained ISO9001 certificate of registration for its quality management system
  • In 2004 Aichi Plant opened their Los Angeles Sales Office and the Wako Chemicals USA, Inc. opened their Diagnostics Division and obtained ISO13485 certificate of registration for its quality management system.
  • In 2005 Boston Sales Office of Wako Chemicals USA, Inc. was opened. The Tokyo Plant obtained thr JCSS certificate of registration. An R&D Center at Mountain View was also opened in this year.
  • In 2007 Tokyo, Osaka and Mie Plants Obtained new JIS certificate of registration.
  • In 2008 Tokyo Plant Obtained ISO Guide 34 certificate of registration.
  • In 2010 Shanghai Representative Office was opened.
  • In 2012 four new subsidiaries Wako Holdings USA, Inc., Shanghai Wako Chemical Co., Ltd., Wako Life Sciences, Inc., and Wako USA Automation, Inc. were founded under 100% capital ownership.
