VUMA
VUMA, also called the VUMA! Portal, is a virtual education site. It is a project by Foundation of Tertiary Institutions of the Northern Metropolis. Its purpose it to increase the quality of a student's university experience by convenient online access to a variety of excellent materials that relates to a student's studies. Its mission is also to help new students adapt to campus life.
The VUMA! Portal is FOTIM’s attempt to pool the information and resources of its member institutions to support students in their university lives and career pathways. Through various partnerships, FOTIM’s core focus will be on providing support and information to under-prepared students entering higher education. Using Web 2.0 technology platforms, the Portal provides a shared space where individuals can come together to learn, collaborate and build knowledge, not only in an institutional setting, but in virtual and cross-institutional settings.
Currently the VUMA! Portal's wikis encourage users to create content that outline writing skills, study skills and issues around coping strategies for university life. These are available through the / Study Centre, / Writing Centre and / Life Hub. While the intial focus is on FOTIM member contributions the portal is keen to grow the content and welcomes any contributions.
