Visualase

A small flexible laser probe is guided to the intended target area. The patient is transported to an MRI unit. The MRI allows a physician to precisely monitor treatment using special software to measure temperatures. Visualase, Inc. founded in 2005 as a spin-off from BioTex, Inc. , is focused on laser and image-guided technologies for thermal ablation. They developed the Visualase Laser Thermal Ablation System referred to as "Visualase" in which energy is delivered directly into a lesion. Light is delivered through fiber-optic cable, heating a diffusing tip. At the same time, the doctor can watch the temperature and estimated damage over live MR images, as the procedure happens . This technology marries MRI and laser and ablation technologies.

Visualase is FDA cleared to necrotize soft tissue under MRI guidance .
