Vincent DeMartino
Vincent DeMartino (born 1955), aka "Chickie", is a New York mobster who became a hitman for the Colombo crime family.
In 1992, after his release from prison on a bank robbery conviction, DeMartino was convicted of illegally possessing a firearm. In 1993, the court sentenced him to four years in prison.
In 1999, Alphonse Persico allegedly ordered DeMartino and Thomas Gioeli to [...] Cutolo. After the [...], Persico paid DeMartino $50,000 for the hit.
On July 16, 2001, DeMartino attempted to kill Colombo mobster Joseph Campanella as he was entering his car in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Campanella, who thought he was being followed by the FBI, instead saw DeMartino come out of a green minivan with a .357 magnum wrapped inside a towel. DeMartino wounded Campanella in the upper arm and foot, but Campanella managed to escape. After the attack, DeMartino used his cell phone to call his driver, Michael Spataro, to report "Mike, we missed." Campanella later speculated that DeMartino wanted to kill him out of fear that that Campanella was going to avenge Cutolo's [...]. DeMartino may have also suspected Campanella of having an affair with his wife.
In May 2004, DeMartino was convicted of attempted [...] in the Campanella attack, based partly on testimony from Campanella, who had become a government witness. DeMartino was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
As of December 2008, DeMartino is incarcerated at the Allenwood Medium Security Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Allenwood, Pennsylvania. His projected release date is January 1, 2025.
