Vince Friyia
Vince Friyia is a retired Canadian hockey player.
Friyia played from 1973 until 1986. He played parts of 3 seasons for the OHA's Soo GreyHounds, recording 36 points in 75 games. From 1977 to 1980 he was a member of the Lake Head Thunderwolves. There he met friend and future father of the NHL's greatest pest Sean Avery, Al Avery. He also played on a line with Henry Staal father of Eric, Jordan, Marc and Jared. He is second (to Murray Smith) on Lake Head's all time scoring list with 81 goals and 127 assist and an amazing 2.1 points per game.
In 1981 he left for Italy. In Italy he scored 44 goals and 55 assists in just 33 games. His experience was cut short when he left for Spain in 1982. He was introduced to Spain by the secretary of the city he went to, Jaca. She showed him the shortest member of the club, his soon to be brother-in-law, Peti Puyelo. Friyia played 3 years, meeting his wife Ana Puyleo while there. In 1986 he had his last moment of glory when chosen to coach the Spanish National team where for the first (and only) time they won the C group, but lost in the first round to Norway finishing fifth overall.
Family
After that he coached for 12 more years after his marriage in 1986. In 1998 he had his son Vince Friyia, Jr. In 2005 he started coaching again for his son. In 2005/06 came 2nd, 2006/07 won league title, 2007/08 2nd last and 2008/09 (so far) 1st.
