Viewmy.tv Ltd
Viewmy.tv Ltd is a digital media company based in London, UK and was founded in August 2006 by Peter Woodford and Stephen Ong.
The company’s first major project was the website www.viewmy.tv, a live socially networked Internet TV aggregation service. The site provides access to free streaming TV channels from all over the world.
In 2008 Viewmy.tv Ltd launched its second product, Brandstation. The Brandstation social network platform was designed to be a ready-to-use website and social network for use by anybody. It has since been expanded by Viewmy.tv to create a media network of social news networks.
History
Viewmy.tv Ltd was one of the first online TV aggregation services, and the first to incorporate social networking features into the platform. The site provides access to around 2500 streaming TV channels (noted for 2009) from 100 different countries. It features mainstream channels and independent productions and broadcasts.
Viewmy.tv Ltd has also built enterprise social network sites for both PricewaterhouseCoopers and Diageo.
Viewmy.tv Ltd has been noted by the likes of the Guardian and been included in The Telegraph’s section Friday Picks. It has also received recognition from various internet publications such as cnet.co.uk a well-known technology review site and What Satellite referred to the site as ‘Facebook for TV lovers’. Converging Media a publication from Informatm Telecoms and Media, a leading provider of business intelligence, has noted that Viewmy.tv is one of the innovative companies in its field. Such publicity withstanding Viewmy.tv, and its peers, have not been immune from criticism. The more serious accusation of online television, including software such as BBC iPlayer, is that it is responsible for a possible slowing down of the internet, a suggestion that has been made by T3.com.
In July 2007, Peter Woodford (CTO) spoke to the BBC on ‘The Future of Television’ and highlighted the major changes that could change the entertainment industry with a particular focus on how IPTV would be delivered in the future.
In December 2009 Viewmy.tv was featured on UK national TV, on the BBC, and voted one of the best sites on the web.
