VidDay
VidDay is an online service that allows users to collect video messages, photographs, and other media from multiple contributors and compile them into a single edited video.
History
VidDay was conceived in 2015 by Denis Devigne, who created a compiled video greeting for a friend using submitted photos and recorded messages. Devigne initially operated by manually editing customer videos, before working with co-founders Jeffrey Laxson and Kyle Sierens to develop automation for video processing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company reported a significant increase in demand and accelerated changes to its technology and workflow to handle higher usage.
Operations
VidDay is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The company serves clients internationally, with over eight million users in more than 180 countries. Its services include the creation of compiled video greetings for events such as birthdays and retirements, along with related products such as VideoGreet, VidDay Greetings, and a digital wedding guestbook.
VidDay also has partnerships and initiatives involving pre-screening cinema messages and charitable programs tied to video creation. The company offers some videos at no cost, Providing them to charities and nonprofit organizations, and linking their creation to donations for an education charity in Laos and to initiatives that have resulted in more than 100,000 trees planted.
In addition, the company has received a Canadian federal contribution through the National Research Council Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).
VidDay uses Amazon Web Services for video processing and delivery, and was featured in a case study that also described its AWS-supported delivery of an encrypted video greeting to an astronaut in orbit in December 2020.
