Copeland began boxing at the age of 9, training regularly with well known coaches. She was then scouted and taken for training at Bobby Rimmer's Gym in Hattersley, Manchester, where she still currently trains.
She recently acquired the BBO Girls Under 16's Middleweight Championship and on the 5th December 2007 won the IBF Girls Under 16's Middleweight Title. Making her the first British Under 16's female boxer to hold an Internationally recognised title.
To date she has never lost a competitive fight. With 45 Wins, 34 by way of K.O and 0 Losses.
It is unclear as to her future at this stage, she has stated that after talk with her trainers, she will be staying at Middleweight rather than making the step up to Super-Middleweight, and it would be "totally daft" to go and fight in any other weight class other than her natural weight class saying "Did you see what happened to Ricky (Hatton) ". This gives Russian Varya Ankulova a chance to re-challenge to try and win back her IBF title in 2008, while there is no official confirmation of a re-match, Copeland has returned to training already and looks "in the best shape she's ever been in" according to her coach. The BBO are expected to confirm Ankulova as Copeland's next opponent before the New Year with the fight predicted to be around March.
If in April 2008, Copeland still holds both the IBF and BBO U-16 Middleweight Titles, she will be forced to surrender them as she turns 16 and will then be able to challenge either for the Under-18's titles or the Women's Titles in accordance to BBO and IBF rules. These state that she can only challenge for EITHER Under-18's Titles or Womens Titles and she must make that decision within 3 days of turning 16. After the registration into either of the 2, Copeland's first senior fight will be in September when fighting commences.
She has ruled out speculation that she will be going to train in America and also rife speculation that she is ready to hang up her gloves, she said " at the moment, I am only fighting girls, I am only a girl myself, and there would be no sense in hanging my gloves up before getting a real taste of womens boxing, I will quit when I become a World Champion and not at any time before then"
