Vermont International Film Festival

Vermont International Film Festival (VIFF) is a film festival, held annually in Burlington, Vermont, USA. The 2009 Festival ran from October 23 to November 1.

Historically it was an environmental and human rights film festival. The festival was started in 1985 by peace and social justice activists, George and Sonia Cullinen, whose inspiration came from the success of their 1981 documentary, From Washington to Moscow, which won the UNESCO prize at the 1983 Hiroshima International Film Festival in Japan.

Theatre owner Harold Blank is credited with diversifying the festival by bringing in such films as the award-winning Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire, George Clooney's The Men Who Stare at Goats (film) and The Young Victoria, starring Emily Blunt, Jim Broadbent and Miranda Richardson.
