Vampire (The Matrix)

Vampires are fictional American video game characters which feature in the video game Enter the Matrix.

During the gameplay, the player must enter the Merovingian's Chateau to obtain a special key (made by the Keymaker) for "The One". This key has been stolen by Cain and Abel, a vampire-werewolf duo. The Merovingian sends swarms of vampires and werewolves to kill the player. The werewolves and vampires are early Matrix programs from the second version of the Matrix; the Merovingian has saved their files and brought them to The New Matrix as Exiles.

The vampires have special code which allows them to be killed only by a wooden stake to the chest (and werewolves by only silver). This means that bullets are ineffective against them. The Oracle tells Neo about "vampires, werewolves, and ghosts" just before his Burly Brawl with Smith.

Origins

The origins of the vampire-like programs, are from the second version of the Matrix. The Architect tells Neo that he created the first Matrix as a paradise, with no flaws at all. The humans didn't accept this because it was "too perfect". The Architect then made the second Matrix, which also resulted in failure because it was a place resembling hell, with disease, plagues, demons, and terror.

This is where the vampires come from. They were programs used as a form of control over the humans. In this Matrix, there was a program called the Merovingian, who was another form of control over the humans. He was much more powerful than the vampires, ghosts, werewolves and other supernatural beings.

Characters

Cain and Abel

Cain and Abel are first seen in The Matrix Reloaded, when Persephone brings Morpheus, Trinity, and Neo to the Library in the Merovingian's Chateau. Persephone introduces them as programs from an older version of the Matrix, and claims that the Merovingian keeps them in his service because of their apparent invulnerability. She then asks casually "how many people keep a silver bullet in their gun?" before shooting and [...] Abel with a silver bullet, hinting that he was a Lupine. She then gives Cain the choice to tell the Merovingian what she has done or to remain on the premises and die.

Cain is later apparently killed by Neo during the fight in the Great Hall a few scenes later.

In Enter the Matrix, Cain and Abel steal a special key for the One, which will "open the future" according to the Keymaker. Niobe and Ghost must take back the key before Cain and Abel give it to the Merovingian. Cain and Abel end up losing the key to Ghost or Niobe (depending on who you chose).

Vlad

Vlad is seen exclusively in the game Enter the Matrix. He is encountered as a boss fight when Niobe explores the Merovingian's Chateau. He is supposedly the leader of the Merovingian's Vampire Exiles. He is portrayed as an imposing and borderline barbaric vampire, and his name hints that he May Be taking after infamous Vlad Tepes/Vlad Dracula/Vlad the Impaler. He is most famous for his lair, littered with enemies impaled on wooden stakes, much like the historical figure.

Vlad is killed when he fights with Niobe for the second time. He, like the rest of the vampires, meets his end when subdued and a wooden stake is driven in his heart, which scrambles his code permanently and terminates him.

Notes

The vampire exiles, are not actual vampires, they are programs in the Matrix that faced exile. They are only programmed to resemble vampires, and take on the traits of vampires. The same goes for ghosts, werewolves and all other supernatural beings in the Matrix.
