University Library of Stavanger

The University Library of Stavanger is a part of the University of Stavanger (UiS). Its’ main purpose is to be a source of information for students and staff at the university. The library also offers services to individuals and the local trade and industry outside of UiS.

The library has three departments:

  • The department in Kjølv Egeland’s house at Ullandhaug offers library services to students and staff at the university campus at Ullandhaug.
  • In Bjergstedparken there is a library for those who study music and dance at the campus at Bjergsted
  • From 2009 the library also has a department at the Museum of Archaeology at Våland, because the Museum of Archaeology is now a part of UiS.

The library has a varied collection of books and printed journals suited to the subject areas covered by UiS. In 2009 the library had more than 240 000 visitors and 130 000 transactions. Like other academic libraries it is now imparting a lot of information in digital forms, and offers a wide range of article databases and digital journals and books. In 2009 about 100 000 articles in full text were downloaded from the databases offered by the library. More and more of the library’s budget is spent on digital resources.

The library’s collection is registered in BIBSYS.

The library has 28 positions, divided between 32 employees (some of whom work part time).
