Builder Chuck Warrender opened UBuildIt in 1988. Warrender's idea was to create a consulting firm to help people save money by facilitating and managing the construction of their own homes. Warrender's concept for this company was to use his knowledge of the construction industry to guide inexperienced first-time builders toward becoming their own general contractors.

After spending nine years developing a system, Warrender gave his company the UBuildIt title, and in 1998 decided to nationally franchise his system. The premise of the system is: Each UBuildIt franchise receives training on how to use Warrender's construction manual, a systematic advising plan for each phase of construction.
