Trimantium Capital
Trimantium Capital is a fundamentals-style investment company that finds and grows emerging technology companies in the finance, software and health sectors. The company's primary business model is to identify pre-revenue companies that are believed to be close to securing a key foundation client or contract, or where Trimantium can help secure the first customer. This allows the company to experience a relatively low-risk gain in asset value over a short period of time as the investment becomes revenue generative. Trimantium also encourages its portfolio of emerging companies to work closely together, quite different to the attitude of many venture capital funds. Trimantium has a strong environmental social governance philosophy which is necessary given its longer term investment horizon.
Background
Trimantium Capital was founded in 2008 by Phillip Kingston in Melbourne, Australia while studying at the University of Melbourne. The company was originally called Kingston Equities which was incorporated with a capital base of AU$14,000. As at October 2014, Trimantium Capital holds investment positions in more than 15 companies. Trimantium Capital is a supporter of entrepreneurship and business at many Australian universities including Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Melbourne
Investment Philosophy
Trimantium invests in external companies and internally generated business units in approximately even measure. Trimantium's model seeks high levels of return per unit of risk (alpha) for its shareholders based on an agile entrepreneurial management that allows rapid prototyping of business concepts. It internally generates business IDeaS based on market intelligence and is able to spin up Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) efficiently. It then ‘doubles down’ on start-ups showing potential. For its more mature investments, Trimantium is an active investment manager that takes a hands-on role in management, strategy and growth.
