Trico Homes is a residential builder of both single and multi-family homes with operations in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Vernon, British Columbia. The Trico Group of companies was founded in June 1989 by Wayne Chiu. Trico Homes was founded three years later in 1992. Over their history the company has built over 5,000 homes within the Calgary area.
The company has been ranked as on par with the Calgary Regional Average on both the J.D. Power & Associates 2009 and 2011 surveys for single-family new home builders. The company is rated an A+ on the Better Business Bureau scale.
The company’s name is an acronym meaning “Trust, Respect, Integrity, Community and Opportunity”.
Builder Communities
Since the company’s inception in 1989, Trico Homes have built homes in numerous Calgary communities that include Beacon Heights, Milano, Evanston, Sage Hill, Aspenshire, Montreux, Silverado, Cranston, Mahogany and New Brighton.
The company has also built homes in communities outside of Calgary that include Cimarron (Okotoks, Alberta), Heritage Hills (Cochrane, Alberta), and Hillcrest (Airdrie, Alberta).
Trico Homes British Columbia has been involved in home building projects within the Vernon communities of Sierra Gardens, Turtle Mountain and Vista Lago.
Corporate Awards & Community Recognition
In 2006 Trico Homes Calgary received the Better Business Bureau of Southern Alberta’s “Ethics Award” in the "Medium Business" category.. These awards “recognize trustworthy businesses and organizations that display ethical leadership in our community.”
In 2007 the company received Volunteer Calgary’s “Leadership Award” for mid-size business. These awards "promote the value of volunteering and serve as an inspiration for others to get involved in the Calgary community".
In 2011 Trico Homes was given platinum recognition for being listed as one of “Canada’s top 50 Best Managed Companies” for eight consecutive years (2004–2011).
The company has also been recognized as one of “Canada’s Best Workplaces” for six consecutive years (2006–2011).
Ongoing Community Partnerships & Involvement
With philanthropy as one of the company's key operational tenants, Trico Homes has aligned themselves with a number of local partners and charities. The most notable of these include:
GlobalFest - Trico Homes is the primary sponsor of the International Fireworks Festival held each year. This annual event celebrates Calgary’s multiculturalism through live performances, food and exhibits, attracting thousands of spectators every year.
Kid’s Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta – Trico Homes is the major donor to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. Trico Homes is key supporter of the "Shave your lid for a Kid" campaign where participants shave their heads to raise money for the foundation. Trico Homes is also the title sponsor of the Trico Homes Ride for a Lifetime, an annual motorcycle ride that features over 80 motorcyclists. To date the initiative has raised over $1.25 million for childhood cancer research.
Trico Charitable Foundation – Founded in 2008, The Trico Charitable Foundation is a Canadian not-for-profit foundation headquartered in Calgary, Alberta and a subsidiary of Trico Homes. The foundation’s mission statement is to "Provoke innovation and build capacity in social entrepreneurship.". The foundation's stated vision is to "Grow a community of sustainable, entrepreneurial non-profit organizations". The Trico Charitable Foundation has donated over $2M to date to the promotion of social enterprise in Calgary and across Canada.
Trico Homes Language Lab (Bow Valley College) – Spurred by a $250,000 donation to Bow Valley College, the Language Lab is a learning center for English as a Second Language students housed within Bow Valley College. The lab incorporates audio learning with computer access and allows learners to hear their own voices played back in quality recordings.
