Tom Wright (basketball player)
Thomas Stephen Wright (b. 11th October, 1988) is an Australian basketball player. He attends Augusta State University.
Senior career
Wright joined Augusta State in the fall of 2007. Jaguar's head coach Dip Metress said:
Tom is a true point guard that comes with great credentials from Australia. He was a finalist for the Under-19 Emus squad which was comprised of the top players from Australia and this is a great honor. Tom has a great work ethic and is highly spoken of by several of the top coaches in the Land Down Under.
For the 2007 season, Wright was awarded the Waratah Australian Young Player of the Year and for his club Northern Suburbs Waratah League - the Best Defensive Player and Most Improved Player Awards.
Youth career
In 2006 Wright was the National Schools Tournament MVP,at Perry Lakes Stadium in Perth, Western Australia, and received a scholarship to attend the NSWIS (New South Wales Institute of Sport). He was also selected in the Australian Emus U/19 Squad. In the same year he had captained his high school team St Aloysius' College, the undefeated N.S.W. Combined Independent Schools team and the undefeated N.S.W. Schoolboys team. He was the only player in his schools history to have his number (11) retired.
Wright was a member of the undefeated NSW Under 20 team to win the gold medal at the National Championships held at Ballarat Victoria in February 2007. He plays as a point guard or shooting guard
Wright was part of the U19 Australian Emu's Squad, which competed in the World Championhampionships in Serbia in July 2007. He played for Northern Suburbs in the Waratah Australian Basketball League.
