Tokyo R246 (GT)

Tokyo Route 246 is a fictional, street-based motor racing circuit mapped on actual city streets in the centre of Tokyo, Japan known as Akasaka. To date, it has appeared in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, Gran Turismo 4 & Tourist Trophy.

Overview

Tokyo Route 246 is 5217 m in length, and consists of 13 turns, including one hairpin, one chicane, and one perpendicular corner. Its pit straight is national road 246 from which the course takes it name, and is 1.6 km long.

Geography

The circuit offers many opportunities to view various city landmarks. It borders an area of parkland in the city centre containing the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery, which is visible on the approach to turn 2. The track section between turns 3 and 4 runs alongside Jingu Stadium, Jingu 2nd Baseball Stadium and the National Stadium. Between turns 9 and 12, a number of buildings such as the New Otani Office Towers, Sanno Park Tower and Capitol Tokyu Hotel can be seen. The track ducks under the Shuto Expressway as it heads down to the hairpin turn 13, and racers head back along the R246 pit straight, passing buildings such as the Akasaka Tokyu Hotel, Akasaka Prince Hotel, and the headquarters of Sony, the game's publishers.
