Todd Jesse Humphrey (born September 02, 1975, in Sedalia, Missouri) is a former professional wrestling referee and current professional wrestling manager currently inactive. Best known in the Central States region of the U.S.as the Senior Referee of NWA Midwest-Missouri, Humphrey officiated most main events during his time with the company from 2002-2004.
Career
Early career
Humphrey officiated matches for Wilcox Promotions from 1999 until 2002 when Mid-Ozark Championship Wrestling joined the National Wrestling Alliance as NWA Midwest-Missouri. He was the referee during The Famous Central States Championship revival match between Shane Somers and Butch McClain as well as an all womens show in Branson, Missouri featuring Lei Loni Kai.
Later NWA Career
In 2004, Humphrey was very involved with the promotion in writing storylines and booking shows, however, he began having some knee trouble and had to stop refereeing.
The kick heard 'round the world
In mid-2004, Humphrey, then senior referee of NWA Midwest-Missouri turned on Shane Somers after disqualifying him for using a pile driver illegally. With the aid of The Mongoose and The Mad Hatter Humphrey kicked Shane Somers in the face, knocking him unconscious, and Garrett "Freakin" Williams was born.
Williams then started his managing career, and a month later, actually ended up signing Shane Somers to his roster of athletes, forming the stable The Sportsmen and wreaking havoc at all the NWA Midwest-Missouri's events. Garrett, along with Shane Somers have traveled to Arkansas and Illinois entertaining the people with their antics.
Personal Life
Todd Humphrey is a very devout Christian. He has devoted a huge part of his life in recent years to serving God, and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is very active in his Southern Baptist church, and is a close personal friend of Shane Somers. When asked AbOUT the business, he will tell you outright that he believes that the "purity" that the wrestling business had at one time is now gone. He says that six-sided rings and the language rob the business of the magic it once had. He also has a very creative mind when it comes to putting shows together and can at the drop of a hat, write a show that mom and dad, grandma and grandpa can bring the kids too and all get something out of. The shows that Humphrey writes have messages in them, and always point to lessons taken right out of the bible. He says that you should always learn something when you go to a wrestling show, because it should be a night you would always remember.
