Tiger MCs
Tiger MCs is a band from Norwich, UK. They Make Music that fits into the Lo-Fi, Indie-Rock and Twee-Core genres.
Solo Era
The band started as the solo project of PostaLowa founding member JB Ferguson, who played the first TMCs shows in 2002 in various small venues around Norwich. December 2002 saw the release of 'Nothing Like a Tiger' on DIY label mqprojects' compilation release 'NPU Let's Go!'.
Tiger MCs began to achieve a small following and comparisons to bands such as The Shins, Pavement and The Mountain Goats, as well as support slots across the UK with bands like Alias, Camera Obscura, Duke Special and Volcano!.
Mid-2005 saw the release of the 'Piston-Pawed' mini-LP on mqprojects. available as a limited EDition hand-made package, the 11-song (though sub-20 minute) release sold out almost immediately, and featured live favourites 'Tackles' and 'Horse'.
'We Go Out'
After including 'The Way That You Arrived' on their first Christmas compilation CD, Cherryade Records put out Tiger MCs' first full-length CDLP in the spring of 2007. For the recording sessions at The Sickroom Studio in Norfolk the band expanded to a 3-piece with Mark Jennings (PostaLowa, Ovahead, Master Solo) playing bass and piano, and Joe Bear (Alto45) on drums. The record was recorded and produced by Owen Turner of Magoo, who also plays cornet on 'Aces' and 'America's Billboards'. Other guest performers on the album are Liz Leaver, who recorded the extra track at the end of the album on a Sony Camcorder, Naomi McGowan and Andrew Rayner of Magoo.
Reviews of 'We Go Out' were GeneRally very positive, and the songs 'You've Got Red On You' and 'The Country' received national airplay on Huw Stephens' Radio 1 show.
The full band version of Tiger MCs didn't play their first live show until November 2007, when they debuted at Mikey P. Vader's birthday show at The Queen Charlotte in Norwich. That night they covered 'Buddy Holly' by Mikey's favourite band, Weezer.
Liz Leaver was recruited as permanent keyboardist shortly after this first show.
2008-present
In 2009 Tiger Mcs released a split 7" single with the Brighton-based band Esiotrot on the Filthy Little Angels label, and contributed the track 'Learning a New Lover' to the tribute CD 'Songs in the Key of Ben' (an album recorded by Norwich bands in tribute to Ben Shepherd of Lalia, who died in 2007). Both releases showcased a fuller, more distorted approach from the band. A new mini-album 'Bell' was recorded at The Sickroom (with Owen Turner) and at Stone Soup in Nottingham (with Jack Wiles) during 2009, and is awaiting release in 2010.
