Tiago Mattos (futurist)

Tiago Mattos (October 10, 1979, Porto Alegre,) is a Brazilian futurist, entrepreneur, educator and speaker.

Career

Tiago Mattos graduated in Communications from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In 2001, he was granted a scholarship at the Miami Ad School, in the United States.

In 2005, he was elected for the Young Lions and took part, along with fifteen other designers, in the delegation of young advertisers that participated in the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

In 2006, he was named the ARP Copywriter of the Year.

In the following year, he co-founded Perestroika, a school for creative activities. The company, which was initially focused on communication courses, expanded its activities to include several areas, such as fashion, design, literature, entrepreneurship, management, among others.

The school later started to launch unusual courses, such as Professional Poker, School of Mothers, Skateboard for Women and [...]!. Between 2012 and 2014, it opened units in other five cities in Brazil, as well as its first international unit, in San Francisco, California.

In 2010, Tiago was the opening speaker in TEDx Porto Alegre. Since then, he has been invited to speak AbOUT several topics at conferences and corporate events.

In 2012, he was among the 80 globally selected participants for the GSP12 at the Singularity University, where he graduated as a futurist. This project, a partnership between NASA and Google, takes place at the NASA Research Park in Mountain View, California. The selection criterion in order to be eligible for the Singularity GSP is having, from the school’s point of view, the ability to impact one billion people in ten years.

His presentation on exponential technologies (a "Blindfolded ignite", a lecture he gave while blindfolded, defending the hug as a technology), generated media repercussion. After being chosen the class speaker, his career was covered by Forbes.

In 2014, Perestroika was among the projects selected to participate in the book Empreendedorismo Criativo (Creative Entrepreneurship), which gathers nine Brazilian companies that belong to the New Economics.

He has a degree in "Intelligent Organizations and The Future of Work" from MIT and in "Business Excellence" from the Disney Institute.

He currently leads Aerolito, a unit that deals with software development, hacking, the internet of things, and technology education.

Entrepreneurship

As a serial entrepreneur, he’s participated in teams that have founded several projects, namely the seven units of Perestroika, a school of creative activities which include Iscola.cc, peer-to-peer crowdlearning platform; Scholé, consulting services for public and private schools; Esquina 111, an entertainment complex that includes a bar, a restaurant, a school and an event area and Czarina, a brand of craft beer.

He was also present in the beginning of initiatives in which he no longer takes part, such as Balalaika, a stand up comedy group, and Pipa, a business accelerator with high positive impact and low environmental impact.

Also, between 2013 and 2014, Sputnik came into being: a center for the creation of corporate universities for companies.

Published works and cinema

Tiago Mattos co-authored two e-books: As Mortas da Perestroika (The Perestroika Street Smarts), a guide for young communication professionals, and O Interminável Livro de Tweets da Perestroika (The Perestroika Never-Ending Book of Tweets), with posts made by his partner, Felipe Anghinoni and himself.

He is currently working on his third project, "Vai lá e faz” ("Go Do It"). He is one of the record holders in Catarse, a crowdfunding platform.

He was the executive producer in two short films: Sinônimo de Macho (Macho Synonym), directed by Rodrigo Pesavento, and Life's Highlights, directed by Marco Carvalho.

During his participation in Balalaika, he wrote comedic texts that were interpreted by comedians.
