Thomas Powell (ice hockey)

Thomas Powell (born 12 February 1986) is an Australian semi-professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Melbourne Ice in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career

Powell first played ice hockey for the Melbourne Ice of the Australian Ice Hockey League in 2004. During his first season he played 17 games, scoring 14 goals and recording eight points. He was named the AIHL's MVP for the 2007 AIHL season. Powell was promoted as alternate captain for the Ice in the 2011 AIHL season.

He has also been a member of the Victorian State team in 2008, for which he played four games in the Brown grade (23 & under).

Powell was first called up to represent Australia in 2004 where he joined the national under-20 team to compete at the 2004 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He played again for the under-20 team in 2005 and 2006. In 2008 Powell joined the national senior team to compete at the 2008 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships. He has since represented Australia at two other world championships.
