Bowe, who is from Ellendale, Delaware, was selected as the 629th overall pick from Milford High School in the 21st round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. Upon his selection in the 2008 MLB draft, Bowe became the first athlete from Ellendale to be drafted by a professional sports team and the first athlete to ever be drafted straight out of high school from Milford High, and the second Henlopen Conference senior to be drafted. His Senior League Baseball All-Star uniform number 20 was retired by Milford Little League, with an autographed jersey hanging in the board room of the Little League office.

In his senior year of high school baseball he was selected as the Milford High School baseball team Most Valuable Player, first team all-Henlopen Conference, first team all-state, American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region 2 Team, and was selected as a centerfielder for the Gold Team in the 31st Blue-Gold Senior All Star High School baseball game, although he could not participate in the game after being drafted. Bowe also led the team to a 16-5 record, the best in school history, and the 11th seed in the state championship tournament, their second consecutive appearance, where they fell 5-4 in the first round after 6th seed Indian River made a final inning comeback.
