The Sprite Sisters

The Sprite Sisters is a fantasy novel written by Sheridan Winn. The idea for this story popped up when Winn was writing in her diary.A few days later, she approached Piccadilly Press’s Brenda Gardner and The Sprite Sisters were born.

The Setting

In the gently undulating countryside of North Norfolk is a huge, mysterious house, with rolling grounds. This is Sprite Towers, the home of the Sprite family. Magic runs through the Sprite family, but not all of it is good and nobody knows who has it. Unknown to their parents, the four Sprite Sisters each has a magical power that relates to one of the elements of Fire, Water, Earth & Air . When little Ariel gains her power of Air on her ninth birthday, dark forces are soon at work to hurt the sisters. The Sprite Sisters must work together and balance their power, to keep themselves and Sprite Towers safe from harm.(from www.spritesisters.com)

The Main Characters

Flame is 13 and has the power of Fire. Her favourite season is Spring and her favourite time of the day is morning. Flame has the ability to see ahead, to see things that are going to happen. She is the sister who usually works out how to get the Sprite Sisters out of a tight spot. She loves reading, sport and playing the violin. Flame has a lot of courage, but also a fiery temper.Her favorite colors are red and orange. Her haircolor is red. She likes to discuss new ideas and ways of thinking. When she grows up, she will be a writer. She looks like her grandmother in younger years.

Marina is 12 and has the power of Water. Her favourite season is Summer and she is most relaxed in the afternoon. Her hair is brown. Marina has a big heart. She is warm, playful and friendly and loves talking to her friends. She trusts people and has a lot of empathy. She is a lively girl and loves to perform - singing and dancing. When she grows up, she will be an actress or a singer.She plays the viola. Her favorite colors are blue and white. She looks like her grandpa in his youth.

Ash is 10 and has the power of Earth. When things get difficult between the sisters, it is Ash who is the balance and calms things down. The quietest and most patient sister, she thinks deeply about things. She plays the cello and loves to be outside. She is very close to her father and spends a lot of time in the garden with him, growing the vegetables. When she grows up, Ash will be a doctor or an environmental scientist. She likes the evening time and the autumn. Her favorite color is green. Her hair is brown. She looks like her dad.

Ariel is 9 and has the power of Air. She is the naughtiest of the sisters and is always getting in to trouble. She likes to daydream and has her ‘head in the clouds’. There is always has a story going on in Ariel’s head, but often she surprises her family with her wisdom and clear insight. She likes the night, when she can dream some more and is happiest in the Winter, particularly when it snows. When she grows up, she will be an artist, a musician or a teacher. She plays the flute and loves her animals. Her favorite colors are pink and yellow. Her hair is blonde, she looks like her mother.

Glenda Glass is an old enemy of the Mrs. Sprite. She hates her because it was she who got to marry Mr. Sheldon Sprite.She always lost out to her in their younger days. She wants to take revenge by hurting Mrs. Sprites grand daughters.

Verena Glass is Flame's Arch enemy.She also seems to like Quinn.She becomes a good friend of Marina in BOOK 2.

Quinn Both Verena and Flame like him. His sister is Marina's best friend.

Pia and Vivek- Pia is Flame's best friend. Vivek is Pia's brother.

Colin Sprite He is the father of sprite sisters.He doesn't have any power though being a Sprite.

Grandmother/Mrs. Sprite She is Colin's mother, She had a power in her younger days but lost it when she fought with Glenda cause her side of the family can't use their power for bad purposes.

Otallie Sprite She is the wife of Colin Sprite and the mother of Flame, Marina, Ash and Ariel.She has very caring nature and also loves Verena like her own daughter.

The Books

Book One: The Circle of Power Each of the Sprite Sisters, between nine and thirteen, has a magical power related to one of the four elements – Earth, Water, Fire and Air. When Ariel discovers her power on her ninth birthday, their circle is complete. The girls’ magic must be kept secret, and used only for good; if not, the consequences could be dire.

The Sprites’ big house in the country is full of laughter and sunshine, but a shadow is falling. Everything the Sprite Sisters hold dear will soon be shattered by the arrival of someone who is intent on destroying their power.It is Glenda,their grandmother's old enemy,who has come to take care of Verena(her granddaughter) because her mother has run away. Flame's enemy is her gran's enemies' granddaughter , Verena Glass. Glenda is intent on taking the Sprite Castle for herself.There is also a concert taking place in the school in which the sisters are participating. Glenda hurts Ash but Sprites form the cirlcle of power and the girls` school (Drysdale High) wins the concert!

Book Two: The Magic Unfolds The Sprite Sisters’ home, Sprite Towers, is under threat. The roof is leaking and their enemy, the ruthless Glenda Glass, is determined to have the house for herself. And tensions are mounting between the girls as they prepare for the most important concert of their lives. Can the Sprite Sisters resolve their differences and summon all their magic powers to save Sprite Castle?

Book Three: The Secret of the Towers The summer holidays bring campfires and newfound freedom to the Sprite Sisters.
