The School of Rock Cebu

The School of Rock is a music school located in Cebu City, Philippines.

Beginning

The School of Rock was originally founded as Salonga School of Rock in 2011 by Pia Quisido and her husband Erwin Quisido. The name was changed in December 2012 to The School of Rock due to a new partnership agreement, complete with a full launch at a press conference in January 2013. While no formal announcement was ever made, the school reverted back to the Salonga School of Rock name sometime in 2013.

Before the school's founding, Pia Quisido helped with her family’s business of A. Salonga Music Schools in Cebu. Her husband, Erwin Quisido, did not have any music experience, but he helped coordinate technical support for the school. Although the Salonga name was used to start the new business, it was not a branch, nor associated or connected with the popular A. Salonga Music Schools or A. Salonga music stores in the Philippines. It is also not associated with the popular School of Rock chain of music schools started in the United States or the branch open in Manila. Pia and Erwin claim the popular movie, School of Rock, as the inspiration for their business. Before the school, they had opened several failed businesses, finally settling on the idea of opening a music school.

Performances

The students of The School of Rock have performed at several malls in the city, such as Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, SM City Consolacion, and J Centre Mall. The performances are in place of a traditional recital.

Controversy

The School of Rock has been embattled in a legal dispute between co-owners since mid-2013. The school continues to operate although there are multiple cases/charges filed against the school and the Quisidos , including their lack of financial transparency with their business partners, as well as kicking the partners out of the business and physically blocking them from entering the school building.
