The North Africa Middle East Initiative of German Business (NMI)

Nordafrika und Mittelostinitiative der deutschen Wirtschaft (NMI)

The NMI´s purpose is to facilitate access to markets and to promote bilateral cooperation with countries in the Region, involving 10 country-commities, as well as official government agencies and departments. The initiative also seeks to give NMI countries greater access to the European Union markets. Another goal is to work actively to improve economic cooperation between Germany and the region. Over all the Initiative regards itself as the guardian of German business interests in region.

The (NMI) was set up in March 1996 by the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federation of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade (BGA), the German Near and Middle East Association (NuMOV) and was later joined by the Africa Association (AV) as well as the Association of German Banks (BdB).

Chairman of the NMI is Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, Chairman of the Board of MAN Ferrostaal AG.

The Organisation covers 21 countries:
