The Nissan Pathfinder Offroad Association
Nissan Pathfinder Offroad Association (NPORA) was created in 2000 by James S. Bennett Sr. as a local offroad club. The website began to take on other participants in way of adding their own Pathfinder's to MrJim.net and later a forum was added for everyone to login to and talk to each other daily. The popularity of the small site grew to the point that it was decided that Jim should start a real site dedicated to all Nissan Pathfinder owners. In 2003 Jim created NPORA (Nissan Pathfinder Offroad Association). On this always free site, members could add photos of their Pathfinders, learn AbOUT maintenance, read about special issues, and in general they had an audience of Pathfinder owners to compare notes and come up with solutions to any and all issues discussed.
By 2004, NPORA had exploded to a member base of over 2000 from over 66 countries around the globe. The site never advertized for funding and Jim Bennett paid for all site hosting and other fees until 2009 when the site literally began to stand on its own. There are appointed site administrators and moderators. The main URL for the site is www.nissanpathfinders.com and secondarily www.nissanpathfinders.net which both lead to the same lcoation. The member numbers had exceeded 4500 by the month of January 2010 and are expected to surpass 5000 by midyear.
NPORA members around the world are known for having tracked down MrJim (Jim's Pathfinder) in a salvage yard after it was lost in a divorce in 2005, and they collectively raised over 4000.00 USD to buy the Pathfinder back and rebuild it for Jim Bennett. It was picked up by a group of NPORA members from the state of Washington and it was reconditioned and put back in new condition before they presented it back to Jim on the first annual MrJim Offroad Run in Tahuya, WA.
Most of the online activity for NPORA happens on their forums located at npora.ipbhost.com.
