The Men's Room (radio program)

The Men's Room is an afternoon drive time talk and music radio program on KISW-FM in Seattle, Washington. The show airs Monday through Friday from 2pm to 6pm Pacific time. The show discusses a variety of topics, usually with a "question of the day" inspired by the day's news.

The show is hosted by Miles Montgomery and Steve "The Thrill" Hill. The two usually start the show by bringing up a top news story, which they turn into a question directed at the program's audience and encourage listeners to call in with their responses to the question of the day. Callers are taken live in between music segments that follow the introductory question.

The show's board operator "Thee" Ted Smith acts as a sidekick; in the final hour of the show, Smith leads a short segment called "TV Time with Ted" in which he discusses his picks for television shows for the evening.

History

The Men's Room moved from Baltimore, Maryland to join talk radio station KQBZ in February 2005. The show broadcast in the evenings 7pm to 11pm, with in-depth conversation topics and listener call-ins.

Prior to January 2006, KISW syndicated Howard Stern's radio program in the Seattle metropolitan area market; in preparation for Stern's move from terrestrial to satellite radio, Entercom reorganized KISW's on-air staff and programming on November 30 2005. Entercom changed KQBZ's call letters to KKWF and reformatted the station to country music; on the same day Entercom announced that two of KQBZ's shows, The Men's Room and The BJ Shea Morning Experience, were moving to KISW effective January 2006. The Tom Leykis Show, which has been nationally syndicated out of Los Angeles, CA live on an afternoon slot for over ten years on KQBZ, was now for the first time (in Seattle's market) on a taped-delay to be aired Mondays through Thursdays from 10pm to 2am, much to chagrin of long-time Leykis listeners. An early attempt was made by those listeners to return him to the rush hour time slot (which The Men's Room currently occupies on KISW) by boycotting the station, but no changes were made to the schedule. ("[http://westwoodone.com/program?action=viewProgram&programID=322| The Tasting Room with Tom Leykis]"- a syndicated show completely separate from his regular weekday show, which aired on weekends- was also lost in the Seattle market during the move after only a few months of airing on KQBZ.)

Current Show

The Men's Room is currently a mixed format music and talk program. Though the show is now broken up by music segments, the hosts retained much of the caller-driven talk format they used on their all-talk show on KQBZ. The Men's Room occasionally has guests in studio, including bands and celebrities, and they have interviewed several musicians including Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, and Zakk Wylde.

  • In July, 2007, Pete Stacker and David Bickler from the Real Men of Genius commercials for Bud Light beer visited the studio and performed two customized variations of their commercial in separate tributes to The Men's Room and Seattle, WA, respectively. The songs themselves- "The Men of The Men's Room on KISW", and "The City of Seattle in the Great Northwest"- performed back-to-back, were recorded by a digital video camera, and were shortly posted to YouTube for those who had not heard them live. They are also available on KISW's site.
  • In December, 2007, KISW/SEATTLE re-signs afternoon team THE MEN'S ROOM to a new five-year deal.
