The Mall consett
The Mall Consett is a multi million pound development in the County Durham town of Consett. Much of the area around the centre of town had to be demolished to make way for the new mall. The Mall has 42 retailers with 6 anchor tenants. The anchor tenants are Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, House Of Fraser, Primark, Bhs and Borders. The Mall has 3 floors G,1,2.
Redevelopment of the Blue Mall
On the 1st February 2008 there were plans drawn up to build and extra 8 stores on to the original Blue Mall. This new area would be called The New Blue Mall and would also mean it would become the largest mall in the shopping centre with 13 stores, the 5 original stores and the 8 new ones. It would also include knocking down the original Marks & Spencer, which had just one floor at the time. Before this redevelopment there was just 4 anchor tenants. The new development would include,
A Brand New 3 Floor Marks & Spencer, A Brand New 3 Floor House of Fraser, A Brand New 3 Floor Borders Store, 6 new other Retailers, 3 new escalators, A Brand New Entrance into the Blue Mall From the Eastern Car Park.
Construction of the New Blue Mall Began on 4 July 2008 and Was Completed on the 13th December 2009.
The Black Mall
On the 7th August 2008 it was announced that a Black Mall Was To be Built. The Mall Would Connect The Red Mall to The Green Mall. There Would also be new developments in the Black Mall, A Brand New 7 Screen Odeon Cinema and 2 New Retail Units. Construction Began on the 1st September 2008 and Finished on 4th August 2009.
