The Last Royals
The Last Royals are an American Indie/Pop band from New York, NY. The band was created from life’s daily urban existence. "The lyrics are phenomenal, the production is a blast and grows into something glorious.” The music reveals the city and the world’s unending grind. Although, it reflects the perspective that there is a faint gleam of hope. Their stories strive to be AbOUT reality and the “cynical tales of living in a world of concrete and steel.”
Background
The Last Royals, a duo of writer/singer/producer Eric James and drummer Mason Ingram were brought together in Spring 2010. The connection began a new chapter in Eric’s career as a musician, evolving him from a solo artist (The Early Hours) to “Pop music near the summit of Mount Perfection.”
Signing to Ooh La La Records
The Last Royals signed with Ooh La La Records for the release of their self-titled EP.
The Last Royals EP
The Last Royals’ debut self-titled EP was released November 16, 2010 including tracks originally written for The Early Hours, which appeared on a self-released album of eight tracks called A Week And A Day. The idea was to create songs written in eight days, each track representing one day of the week, plus an additional day. The EP included stories around imagined yet brutally real characters in a cityscape. ”Energetic, electro-pop songs that coincide with the most bittersweet sentiments...danceable beats, melodic-vocals and wistful words for your listening enjoyment.”
The Last Royals EP produced by Mason at Brooklyn’s Headgear Studios in July 2010, plus an additional remix of “Backseat Lovers.” “Stark contrast between upbeat, danceable music and dark lyrics — a style choice made specifically to embody life in New York City” The lyrics are about life being bittersweet, the music, “Super bouncy indie pop", “the melodies are bouncy and the energy is at full tilt”. The tracks are a perspective of a man living in Manhattan as he works crap jobs to support his family and spends his nights in a recording studio searching for personal truth. “Stark contrast between upbeat, danceable music and dark lyrics — a style choice made specifically to embody life in New York City”
The songs respond to the difficulties life presents while keeping the music hopeful and bright, creating a candid depth about our lives. It is "decidedly indie and ruminative... brainy, but still accessible enough to warrant widespread attention and acclaim.”
