The Lancer Society

Since its founding in 1934, The Lancer Society has been bringing the men of Whittier, California an opportunity for brotherhood community service and valor. Always strong concerning the values of its Quaker tradition, it has striven to aid the incoming students as well as the returning students, the community, and the college, in any way that it can. The Lancer society seeks to instill the motive of service without the desire of reward in the men of Whittier College and is prevalent in community service activities on and around the campus.

The Lancer Society hosts the two largest parties at Whittier College: [...] City and Mona Kai. EC is the namesake of the prince song of the early '90s and held in the fall around Halloween. Mona Kai is a Hawaiian themed party where Lancers coordinate 40-60 tons of sand, props and hundreds of palm frawns. It is held in a large tent in the amphitheater parking lot and has traditionally been held in local parking garages. The tent and surrounding area is transformed into an island paradise using several tons of sand, palm fronds and bamboo. It was once ranked by Play Boy as one of the top college parties in the nation and had many corporate sponsors. However, in the last few years it has been held under a tent on campus.

The Lancer Society is also responsible for gaining funds for the construction of the Lancer Memorial Chapel on the Whittier College campus.
