The Illuminati (Deus Ex)
In the video game Deus Ex. The Illuminati are a fictional branch of the original ancient secret organization dating back to 1792. The Bavarian Illuminati In the first game, they have been usurped from their position of power by Ex protege Bob Page and his splinter group "Majestic 12". After the downfall of Majestic 12 at the end of the first game, the Illuminati return to power, though the worldwide Collapse in the game practically cripples all organisations around the world. In Deus Ex: Invisible War, the second game in the series, the world is beginning to reform itself after the Collapse. The Illuminati are back controlling much of the world as they always have, behind the scenes. After the death of Illuminati leader Morgan Everett in the first Deus Ex, Nicolette Duclare (daughter of Beth Duclare from Deus Ex 1 and another member of the Illuminati) is placed in joint charge of the Illuminati with Chad Dumier, the former leader of rebel group Silhouette (who were at war with MJ-12). Both have grown up since Deus Ex 1. They were friends then, but now they are lovers. They have tried to concieve children to carry on the line of Illuminati rule, but they are unable to have children. The Illuminati have always secretly run the world 'behind the scenes'. They do so in two instances in Deus Ex: Invisible War. The fanatical idealistic worldwide religious group 'The Order' is led by 'Her Holiness' (who is really Nicolette Duclare), while capitalist WTO (World Trade Organisation) is controlled by Chad Dumier. While seemingly opposing each other, they are of course secretly working together (without the knowledge of even their own seconds in command for their organisations, Lin May-Chen for The Order and Donna Morgan for the WTO). The ending for DE:IW when you side with the Illuminati is called 'The Age of Light'. This results in you having a high place in the Illuminati hierarchy, which (controlling the world) controls all business' and takes the world into a new age of bio/nanotechnology friendly society and a new age of capitalism.
