The Gilbert Family
The Gilbert Family are an American family consisting of four daughters: Shannan (1986 - 2010), Sarra (1986), Sherre (1987), and Stephanie "Stevie" (1992). Their mother is Mari Gilbert, and they all live in Ellenville, New York. They became semi-famous in 2010 when their relative, Shannan went missing from the Oak Beach Home Owners Association in Long Island, New York. Shannan was a call girl who went to meet a client then for unknown reasons ran from the home and disappeared. The search for Shannan led the Suffolk County Police Department to discover ten sets of human remains along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach, New York. The medical examiners only identified four of the ten bodies; all women who advertised as escorts off of Craigslist. Partial remains of Jessica Taylor (who was found in 2003) were found along the beach, along with other partial remains which also like Taylor were found in nearby Manorville, New York several years prior; linking the "Manorville Butcher" to the Long Island serial killer; making police believe they are the same person. Due to the media attention The Gilbert Family have received surrounding Shannan it turned them into semi-famous public figures.
Mari
Mari Gilbert is the mother of all of the Gilbert sisters. She is an employee at Wal-Mart. She graduated from some college with possibly a degree involving the study of computers, (but it is unknown to the public). She left the father of: Shannan, Sarra, and Sherre sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990's. Like her daughter Sherre, Mari has appeared in the media frequently. On November 15, 2012 she filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Suffolk County Police Department; seeking "either one dollar, or millions of dollars." She said it doesn't matter as long as she gets justice for Shannan. Mari resides in Ellenville, New York.
Shannan
Born on October 26, 1986 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Shannan is probably the most known out of all of the Gilberts. She posthumously became known for her disappearance from Oak Beach, New York which led the local police to discover ten sets of human remains along Ocean Parkway when they went searching for her. Shannan was discovered nineteen months after she went missing, when the Suffolk County Police decided to expand their search to a marshy area of Gilgo Beach; finding Shannan's possessions on December 12, 2011 then finding Shannan on December 13, 2011 at approximately 9:14 a.m.
Sarra
Born in 1986 Sarra is Shannan's fraternal twin sister. She has one son, Hayden born in 2009 with a man who is unknown to the public.
Sherre
Born in 1987 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Sherre is more known in the public from being the one sister who does the most in providing information to the media AbOUT Shannan, because of her constant appearances in documentaries, and television shows. She has two sons: Ady (2009) and Eli (October 2010). She was four months pregnant at the time of Shannan's disappearance; calling Shannan to tell her about her pregnancy, which would be the last conversation they shared before Shannan's disappearance. Sherre is a former phlebotomist who is currently studying to become a high school business teacher.
Stephanie
Born in 1992 Stephanie, better known as "Stevie" is not a Gilbert; opting to take her biological father's name (Smith) for unknown reasons. She has no children and is a 2011 graduate of Ellenville High School. She made her first appearance in the Long Island news documentary: Bodies at the Beach: Search for a Serial Killer.
