The Evolution of Blue Magic
The Evolution of Blue Magic is the debut album by Nigerian-born, American-based Pop singer-songwriter Nenna Yvonne. The album was released on 10 September 2013, under her own independent label Blue Magic Productions LLC, and distributed by Thump Records and Universal Records in Digital Download and CD.
Background
The debut EP received a lot of success, thanks by the 2,238,480 plays on Myspace and 3.5 Million views on her website, with that Nenna became star of the internet. When she moved to Los Angeles, Nenna signed with Interscope Records for six figures in 2011, under which released her main single Go Around via Interscope Records Digital Distribution who became the best-known song of Nenna Yvonne also thanks to NBC who used the songs for an episode of the TV series The Mentalist. In 2011 Nenna won the USA Songwriting Competition for the single Go Around and she was introduced to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, chosen by SESAC. In the early of 2012 Nenna released her debut single Kuru Kuru 360 in Tokyo, Japan through Hyper Disk/EMI who reached the top 10 in Itunes Japan, and also released her follow up single We Came to Rock unde the independent label Victorian Music Group. Thanks to the single Kuru Kuru 360 Nenna received a lot of success in Japan, creating a solid fanbase given to her the opportunity to tour here. Despite the different placement for TV shows, Nenna comes out of the Interscope in 2012. In the same year she deciced to found her own music label the Blue Magic Productions LLC, under which received a deal with Universal which distributed her debut album together with the Thump Records.
Recording
The recording sessions of the album began in 2011. Nenna worked with major producer during the recording session of her first album as Space Cowboy and RIZ who already worked for debut EP and J.R. Rotem with whom she recorded a song call Hold On To My Love released in one of her mixtape. Great part of the songs of the recording session were recorded in collaboration of her mentor Daniel "IAMDTOX" Wisniewski. The release of the album was anticipated by a series of mixtapes/EP the Blue Magic Mixtape divided in 5 volumes, where in addition to publishing some of the tracks that are in the album, she wrote new songs using track of Flo Rida, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Tyga, Snoop Dogg, Coldplay, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Ellie Goulding and covering Girls Just Wanna Have Fun of Cyndi Lauper. In addition to the production of IAMDTOX, Nenna worked also with other two producer who signed under her label, after selecting and heard several productions. The album contains 14 track who raning from Pop dance music to ballads. All the tracks included in the album are written by Nenna Yvonne.
Critical reception
Limerce magize put the album at number 5 of the Ten Best Indie Album of 2013, defining the album eclectic and praising the vocal performance and production.
Singles
The first single of the album is the pop track You And I, released under her own Blue Magic Productions LLC on 14 February 2013. The video of You And I has passed the million views on YouTube and it received a placement for Vh1 who also published the video on its website as well as MTV, Vevo and Itunes. The other singles, released for promote the album were the pop-dance tracks Let Go of Love and Majors.
