The Book (film)

The Book is an upcoming anthology horror film currently in production. It features a series of vignettes which are presented with a wraparound, provided by a narrator. There are 12 segments in the film, directed by Lamberto Bava, Antonio Bido, Enzo G Castellari, Luigi Cozzi, Alberto De Martino, Ruggero Deodato, Aldo Lado, Umberto Lenzi, Edoardo Margheriti, Sergio Martino, Sergio Stivaletti and Tonino Valerii. The screenplay was written by Dardano Sacchetti, and the poster art designed by Enzo Sciotti. The score was composed by Goblin and Claudio Simonetti's Goblin. The film was produced by David BOND, Manda Manuel and Sergio Stivaletti.

Plot

A narrator in an antiquated library enters a labyrinthine catacomb and produces an old book. From the book he proceeds to tell twelve separate stories, each involving the city of Rome.

  • A honeymooning couple find the terror which exists behind the muse of tragedy. Directed by Lamberto Bava
  • A young street musician, obsessed with the beauty of Paganini’s music, soon realises that his idol, and the adulation which he possesses, will lead to a dangerous and terrible situation. Directed by Antonio Bido.
  • In the basement of Profondo Rosso, the museum and store of Dario Argento, strange things happen to some overly curious visitors. Directed by Luigi Cozzi
  • The old gods return with a vengeance in a story of sadism, torture and sexuality. Directed by Alberto De Martino
  • A member of the Roman social elite meets with the sword of justice. Directed by Ruggero Deodato
  • WWII refugees take shelter in an abandoned catacomb. Believing themselves to be safe from harm, they don’t realise that their nightmare is just beginning. Directed by Aldo Lado
  • On the outskirts of Rome, a succession of disappearances involving young girls is linked to a B&B run by a peculiar and dangerous couple. Directed by Umberto Lenzi
  • Cover ups and clandestine acts of depravity and vice within The Vatican pique the interest of a visiting scientist, who finds out a lot more than he bargained for. Directed by Enzo G Castellari
  • After a row, a young woman disappears on her boyfriend with the intention of having a one night stand. A mysterious stranger promises to show her a world of forbidden pleasure, but at what cost? Directed by Sergio Martino
  • The predatory nature and sexuality of vampires has enchanted generations of storytellers. This very Roman tale of lust and desire sees a mortal become embroiled with two sisters of the night. Directed by Edoardo Margheriti
  • A Vatican representative is sent to investigate an esoteric religious cult. Could this be a case of demonic possession, or something far more sinister? Directed by Sergio Stivaletti
  • A voyeuristic man gets more than he bargains for when he decides to follow a young woman through the night time streets of the city. Directed by Tonino Valerii

Production

Production of The Book was announced on Monday, November 25, 2013. The announcement was made across a number of film and genre websites. A crowdfunding campaign was established, with an initial target of $100,000 set, which the filmmakers stated was to be used to procure additional talent for the film. David Bond and Manda Manuel, whose previous film, The Profane Exhibit, is also due out in 2014, are the producers, along with Sergio Stivaletti.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack for The book is composed by both Goblin and Claudio Simonetti's Goblin. Simonetti left Goblin in late 2013 to form his own version of the group, along with members of Goblin covers band, Daemonia.
