The platform was conceptualized and launched in 2020. The parent entity, Tepnot Technologies Private Limited, was formally incorporated in March 2023 in Surat, Gujarat, to manage the platform's engineering, scaling, and commercial operations.
Features
The application combines multiple social and e-commerce functionalities into a single interface:
- LIVE Streaming: Allows users to broadcast live video. It supports single-user streams, co-hosted guest streams, and interactive "Battle Live" formats (1v1 or 2v2). Viewers can purchase and send virtual gifts to creators during broadcasts, which can be redeemed for revenue.
- Shots and Content Feeds: A dedicated feed for short-form algorithmic videos called "Shots," alongside standard image posts, text status updates, and 24-hour disappearing stories.
- Communication Suite: Features end-to-end encrypted direct messaging, group chats, and high-definition voice and video calling.
- Tepnot Shop: A native social commerce marketplace where creators, brands, and merchants can set up digital storefronts to sell physical or digital goods directly to users with built-in checkout systems.
Architecture and Technology
Tepnot is built as a cross-platform application available on Android, iOS, and modern desktop web browsers. The platform utilizes algorithmic recommendation engines to surface content on its "Explore" tab and leverages WebRTC-based structures to maintain low-latency live streaming and real-time interactive capabilities.
