In the fictional Wing Commander universe, the Terran Confederation started deploying many new fighters for their fleets by the year 2680, including the TB-80 Devastator Heavy Torpedo Bomber. These bombers were flyable in later parts of the Wing Commander: Prophecy computer game, starting in the Hrissith System. Devastator bombers were instrumental during Prophecy. Lance Casey pilots a Devastator bomber during an attack on a Nephilim Kraken ship-killer. Casey also uses the bomber to "paint" an enemy carrier group as a target for the TCS Midway so the Midway can uses its huge "shoot and forget" plasma weapon to destroy the Nephilim fleet. Devastators were also instrumental in the destruction of the Nephilim wormhole, which granted the Nephilim aliens access to Confederation space.
The Devastator bomber truly deserves the name "Devastator". The bomber's weapon arsenal is more than enought to take on a carrier group. A Devastator is equipped with the Confederation's newest weapon, the Heavy Plasma cannon, which is powerful enough to tear through any fighter and is capable of destroying a capital ship's primary systems in one shot. The plasma cannon is basically as powerful as a single torpedo. Along with its plasma cannon, the Devastator has a Stormfire gatling gun for fire-fights against enemy fighters, although the Devastator was not meant for starfighter duels. Its missile loadout was heavy as well. A devastator is equipped with four standard torpedoes, eight light torpedoes, six Image Recognition and Friend or For missiles, and thirty-six space mines. Because of the Devastator's heavy weapon loadout, its speed was sacrificied greatly. The max velocity a Devastator was defaulted to reach is only 320 km/s, the same exact max velocity as the old A-17 Broadsword heavy bomber. To make up for its extremely-slow speed so that they can last long in fire-fights, these bombers are equipped with several defensive laser turrets. With all these weapons at their disposal, Devastator heavy bombers were indeed bombers that have devastating firepower.
