Target Neutral

Targetneutral is a 100% non-profit initiative of BP Oil International, aimed at generating awareness around CO2 emissions and improving driving behaviour. Targetneutral is part of the holistic approach of BP to tackle the issue of rising CO2 emissions and global warming. Reducing the CO2 content of new fuels as well as improving fuel usage efficiency both need to be combined to enable real changes. Targetneutral is a three STEP Program to educate car drivers AbOUT their driving behaviour, the impact of CO2 emissions and the possibility to neutralise emissions via CO2 certificates. It follows the "Reduce, Replace, Neutralise framework", where offsetting emissions is only the last step in one's effort to reduce personal CO2 emissions from driving. --> Reduce: reduce fuel usage, drive smarter & in high gears, inflate tyres regularly, use public transport --> Replace: replace normal products with more energy efficient ones e.g. hybrid cars, Ultimate fuel, modern lubricants, efficient tyres --> Neutralise: 1 tonne of CO2 from one's driving can be neutralised by preventing the emission of 1 tonne someplace else. This is guaranteed by supplying the consumer with carbon certificates from officially credited emission reduction projects in Mexico, Australia and India. An independent expert panel is in place to assure legitimacy of certificate trade and handling of consumer funds (e.g. Jonathon Porrit, Director "Forum of the future", Tim Smith, Director "Eden Project", hier.nl climate initiative etc.). Targetneutral is available in the United Kingdom since August 2006 and has been expanded to the Netherlands in November 2007.
