Tanya Darby
Tanya Darby is a jazz musician and plays lead trumpet with the Diva Jazz Orchestra where she joined the group in 1997. Prior to that she was a member of the Grammy All-Star Band.
Early life
Darby first became notable when she played to an audience at the age of 12 at the Monterey Jazz Festival.
Education
Playing with the Grammy All-Star Band brought Darby to the east coast. She attended the Manhattan School of Music and earned her bachelor degree in Jazz Performance.
Awards and Accolades
She has received many awards in recognition for her playing including the Jon Faddis Award for MusicAL Excelllence for Most Promising Jazz Trumpet Talent of the Year.
Performances and Collaborations
Darby has performed with Jon Faddis, Clark Terry, Frank Foster, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Diane Reeves, Ramsey Lewis, and Slade Hampton. She appeared as part of the T.S. Monk Sextet On the Television show BET on Jazz and performed with Aretha Franklin for a special on NBC.
