Study New Testament for Lesbians, Gays, Bi, and Transgender

Study New Testament for Lesbians, Gays, Bi, and Transgender is a controversial book which challenges traditional interpretations of the Bible which assert that homosexuality is sinful.

Content

Some mainstream Christian churches base their condemnation of homosexuality on several verses from The Bible, including Leviticus 18:22, which reads: "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female. It is an abomination." Also, passages from 1 Corinthians 6:9 and Timothy 1:10 use the word arsenokoites, which some have asserted means "homosexual".

The book's author Ann Nyland, who is a classical Greek lexicographer, says the word arsenokoites has been incorrectly translated, and has many other alternate meanings. Nyland claims most New Testament translations are wrong, based on a lack of knowledge of Greek, and a disregard for published academic research.

Controversy

Many Christian bookstores have boycotted Study New Testament for Lesbians, Gays, Bi, and Transgender. U.S. based distributor, God's Word to Women, has banned the book and withdrawn other books by the same publisher, Smith and Stirling, claiming the book is promoting a lifestyle contrary to what is written in the scriptures. The largest retailer of Christian books in Australia, Koorong, has indicated that it may not STOCK the book if it becomes too controversial. American academics asking for their endorsement of other works by author Ann Nyland to be withdrawn.
