Stipe Tolj
Stipe Tolj (born January 30, 1975 in Düsseldorf, Germany) is a Croatian systems architect and open source development evangelist. He is probably best known for his association with The Kannel Software Foundation and the Kannel open source WAP gateway and SMS gateway. The defacto standard for wirless messaging.
He is currently acting as the Head of Technology and Chief System Architect for The Kannel Software Foundation, leading the development and release cycles of the project. In addition he is working as independant system architect and consultant for global companies in the wireless messaging data market. He works and lives in Düsseldorf, NRW, Germany.
Background
Tolj attended the University of Cologne, majoring in information management, computer science and economics. He has been working from 1996 to 2006 as Chief Technology Officer and Head Scientist for Wapme Systems AG, a german stock quoted pionier company for wireless data applications and messaging infrastructure provider. Along beeing Chief Technology Officer at Wapme Systems AT, he has been working for joint-ventures of various major companies within the wirless data market.
Open Source
Tolj has been quite active in various open software projects, and enthusiastically lectures and educates internationally about open development methodologies and distributed collaboration.
Apache Project
Stipe Tolj has been a long time contributor and Platform Manager of The Apache Software Foundation for RedHat's Cygwin POSIX.1 layer binary distribution packages. His involvement with the organisation dates back to late 1996, and his major code contributions have been to the Apache HTTP server project.
PHP Project
Integrating the PHP web application scripting language, Stipe Tolj has been providing the CAMP (Cygwin Apache MySQL PHP) framework for the Cygwin POSIX.1 layer systems.
Kannel Project
Stipe Tolj has joined the Kannel project in late 1996. After submitting various patchsets and bug fixes, he has gaining CVS write permissions to commit to the source code repository. After the initial founders from WapIT Ltd, Helsinki, Finland have been declared bankrupt in 2000, he has formed The Kannel Group, an open participation and colaboration effort of various companies and individuals all arround the world in order to keeping the Kannel project up and continueing the development and maintainance. He is now responsible for the main development efforts, coordination of the code branches and infrastructure providing.
