Rescues on Puerto Rico

Steve and Pamela moved to Puerto Rico as expats through Pam's work. Steve had planned to have some fun exploring the island with the many extreme sport activities he enjoys. Everything was heaven until he discovered the infamous "Dead dog beach". Steve discovered hundreds of stray dogs, most were starving, dehydrated and wore the visible scars of human abuse. The dogs had been abandoned at this beach with no food or fresh water. Steve depleted most of their life savings and spent most of his time helping to rehabilitate the dogs. He founded a 501c3 non profit organization called "Achates legacy rescue foundation". Volunteers from all over the world help fight for the rights the dogs in Puerto Rico and Mexico. McGarva eventually had to leave the Island after receiving several "death threats and even a few attempts" Steve's rescue efforts appeared in People magazine and on the Ellen Degeneres show. McGarva continues his crusade to fight for animal rights and be the voice for those that can't speak for themselves. McGarva can be found working in Mexico and Puerto Rico hosting free spay and neuter campaigns for the locals. McGarva is seen completely in his element when working directly with the street strays and wrangling up the dogs to be sterilized and treated medically.
