Starr Hall
Starr Hall () is the largest of the 18 residential hall of the University of Hong Kong(HKU), established in 2001. The development was funded by a donation to HKU by The Starr Foundation, American International Group, Inc. It houses both male and female students, undergraduate as well as graduate students. Starr Hall is part of The Jockey Club Student Village No.1, which also includes Lady Ho Tung Hall, Ricci Hall and the Superpass Canteen. Starr Hall is popular among FreshMen because of its proximity to the main campus and reputation for being 'international'. It is only 5 minutes away from the East gate and AbOUT a third of its residents are non-local students.
Facilities
Reception and the Starr Hall office occupy the first floor. The second floor has three multi function rooms and one study room, accessible to all Starr Hall students. The public rooms can also be booked by sport teams, cultural interest groups and individuals for meetings and special events. The warden's apartment and a laundry room can be found on the 24th floor. Almost all rooms are double rooms and provide space for 2 students. The 12m2 rooms are equipped with air conditioning, for which students have to buy electricity themselves. All residential floors have two toilets and a shower room, as the rooms do not contain a bathroom. Each floor also features a pantry with cooking facilities, benches, a TV and a refrigerator.
