St. Xavier's School, Rutungia

St. Xavier's School, Rutungia, Kandhamal, Odisha, is a coeducational school, grades one through ten. It was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1995.

History

Archbishop Raphael Cheenath, SVD, offered the Jesuits land to open a school in the rural area of Rutungia, which they did in 1995. The Government of Orissa has given permission for the school to be run as a private school without grants. The school prepares students for the State Board Final Examination. It has a separate hostel for boys and girls. A congregation of Sisters has been assisting, especially with the girls. Mission parishes and training of catechists are outreach programs from the Jesuit facility.

The school is located in the Balliguda block of Kandhamal district in Odisha state, along an all weather road. It covers grades one through ten, with no pre-primary. The teaching language is the native Oriya. The school has implemented continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE). Teachers have "graduate & above degrees," and it has a "comfortable pupil-teacher ratio (PTR)."
