St. Louis Parish, Portland

St. Louis Parish - designated for Polish immigrants in Portland, Maine, United States. Located in Cumberland County, as a part of the Diocese of Portland.

Founded 1915. It is one of the Polish-American Roman Catholic parishes in New England in the Diocese of Portland.

History

May 12, 1915, Father John Ściskalski, CM from the Congregation of the Mission of St. Vincent de Paul, was authorized by the Bishop of the Diocese of Portland to organize a new parish for Polish immigrants living in the western part of Portland.

A new church was built in 1924, on the corner of Danforth st. and Emery st. and Fr. Peter Pojnar, CM, has been officially appointed the first pastor of the new parish.

April 22, 1952 Fr. Peter Pojnar, CM, created a women's organization called St. Louis Women's Society.
