His heart is a suspended lute; As soon as one touches it, it resounds.” -Pierre Jean de Beranger

St. George’s Dhronacharya

Mr. Raju Paul The School’s Physical Education Teacher and State Government’s Best Teacher Awardee (2005–2006) puts his heart and soul to the task of training the athletes who have responded with luminous performances in various Athletics Meets at the State, National and International levels.

After his first success with the Olympian and Khel Ratna winner K. M Beenamol, he has produced outstanding athletes in Sini Jose, Binish B V, Jigimol Jacob and Jalan P. S.

His dream to send his athletes from St. George’s to Olympics, behind the Tri colour, is not far away, as two of his athletes – Binish B .V and Sini Jose - are selected to the Indian Camp for Beijing Olympics. With this sole objective in his mind he works tirelessly, round the clock, helping his pupils study, and train effectively.

Relevance of

St. George’s Higher Secondary School

It has been roses, roses all the way ever since Mr. Raju Paul took over the reign of St. George’s.

Kothamangalam has turned out to be the sports capital of the State and the Nation thanks to the success story of St. George’s Athletics Team. With the minimal training facilities like a 200 meter track and nearly a hundred on its roll St. George’s Athletics team secured hat trick State School Athletics Championship held at Palakkadu with a record tally of 219 points.

The School has contributed 61 points - the highest number of points by any individual school

- to Kerala’s successful title defense at the National School Games held at Mumbai.

It was also the School’s hat trick National Championship.

OBJETIVES OF ST. GEORGE’S ATHLETICS ACADEMY

“Every true man is a cause, a country, and an age; requires infinite spaces and numbers and time fully to accomplish his design; and posterity seems to follow his steps as a train of clients.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson The idea of a sports and Athletics academy is the result of the School’s unparalleled performance over the past few years in the sphere of Sports and Athletics. The School has emerged victorious in every competition in which it has participated without any close challenge. During the month of April every year, the Academy begins its coaching camp. During the course of the camp we identify promising talents and give them quality training as well as the mental strength to conquer great heights. There are over a hundred athletes in the school’s Sports Hostels. Most of these young talents belong to economically backward families. The athletes are given free training, education and food and accommodation. Two of its former athletes are selected in the Indian Athletic Team for Beijing Olympics and is training presently in South Africa. The School aims at sending more of its athletes to the Indian Team for the 2012 Olympics. We have been tracing and training talented athletes solely with the above objective. There is the need to provide training to the athletes even after the completion of their education in this institution. The present Sports hostel with its minimal facilities cannot accommodate very many. The school aims at constructing two Sports Hostels for it athletes and for those who wish to be trained by the academy.

It is Mission Olympics 2012.

The infrastructure we aim to create:

1. Land and Sports Hostels: We require at least 20 acres of land conveniently located near Kothamangalam for the construction of two separate sports hostels - for boys and girls. We aim to give accommodation and training to 200 athletes with in the span of five years.

2. 400-meter track: The School has at present only a 200-meter track. There is no scope for widening it due to lack of space. We require an eight-lane 400-meter grass track and as our future plan an eight-lane 400-meter synthetic track for standard training.

3. Fitness Centre and Sports Equipments: Our Fitness centre is inadequate to give training even to our present athletes. For standard training a well-furnished fitness centre is a pre -requirement. The School has also got very few sports equipments at its disposal. We require sports equipments of quality and technical excellence to provide training to the athletes.

4. Computer and Website: To establish communication with our well-wishers and benefactors as well as to have access to information and advanced technology

2. T V and audio - visual aids: To train the athletes with the help of recorded materials and to familiarize them to advanced training methods.

CHARITABLE TRUST

The glories that St. George’s Higher Secondary School has achieved are the result of the generous backing it receives from the School management, Old Students association, Local Benefactors, Parents and Teachers Association and Our Beloved Students.

A Charitable Trust -“St.George’s Foundation for Sports and Games” (Reg. No. IV-124/04) -- has been established to promote the sports activities of the school.

The prize money of one lakh rupees we receive from the State government does not even meet ten percent of our annual expenses. We do not receive any other Government aid for Sports related activities. Our success thus goes to the credit of common people around us.

We have chosen the path less traveled by and the path which wants much wear. The task is up hill. But we are confident of our success. There is no going back from our chosen path and we are confident to stride forward to glory. You have been with us and so long as you are with us the financial burden would not be too much to carry. The Trust’s Account No. is 4020 of Catholic Syrian Bank, Kothamangalam. Eranakulam District. Kerala State.
