Spri
Spri is a lightweight Ubuntu based Linux distribution created by Lee Briggs. It uses the IceWM window manager and is especially suitable for low-end hardware with limited resources. It is provided as an installable Live CD and, as of 3 September 2009, is currently in beta status. Originally named Icebuntu, on the 29th of August it was announced due to trademarking issues, the name would be changed to Spri.
Name
Spri's name is derived from the English word spry (pronounced /spraɪ/) - meaning active, nimble and/or energetic. The name was originally Icebuntu, however Canonical's trademark regulations meant the name could not be used.
Features
Spri's main objective is to provide a minimal yet functional operating system, only providing the most commonly used applications by default. These programs include: a web browser, a file browser, a terminal emulator and a text editor. It replaces the default applications of a standard Ubuntu install with lighter alternatives to allow for maximum speed on older and less powerful computers.
Applications
The default applications in Spri have been replaced with other GTK based applications that are lighter and have a smaller install size than those in Ubuntu.
